MEET JAMIE

IMG_9133.jpeg

Before nutrition and yoga, my first passion was dance. I started taking dance classes when I was 5 years old. I had a natural affinity for dance because it was something I felt good at and made me happy.

As I grew up and became more immersed in the dance culture, I noticed that all the elite dancers looked a certain way and I wanted to look like them.

I started to pay more attention to my body, compared mine to others, and developed insecurities along the way.

Despite my ongoing battle with body insecurities, I continued to dance all the way into college because it brought me so much joy and made me feel the most like myself. I learned how to manipulate my diet and exercise to control my weight. So much of my life became about my body and less about everything else. Although I may have appeared to be an average healthy teenager, I struggled with food and body image which transpired into depression.

It wasn’t until college when I studied nutrition that I started to find my way “out”.

I was immersed in the science of nutrition and fascinated by human metabolism and disease prevention. The more I learned, the more that food (in my mind) became more than just about me — this was the shift that allowed me to separate my passion for nutrition science from my own personal experience with food and body.

Towards the end of my college dance career, I discovered yoga. Similar to dance, I had a natural affinity for the movement of yoga and how it made my body feel.

Through my practice, I developed a new mindset that taught me how to reconnect with myself, re-establish trust with “the process”, and embody love and compassion for myself and others.

As my yoga practice evolved from student to teacher, I experienced a big shift in my mental health and felt a deeper sense of purpose to share what I’ve learned. My personal experiences with nutrition and yoga changed my life and is what gives me purpose to help others find peace with food, body, and health through my philosophy, Feed The Flow,

With today’s fragmented, overgeneralized healthcare model and the immense amount of misinformation circulating in society — headlines, celebrities, influencers — it’s very challenging to listen to our bodies, let alone trust our bodies.

We end up trusting others more than we trust ourselves.

The more disconnected we are with our bodies, the less we are aware of our behaviors, which is how we develop unhealthy patterns that lead to disease. When we know better, we do better. My mission is to help you reconnect your body and mind and find a healthy flow that’s authentic, sustainable, and allows you to enjoy more of life!
